Don't play too much golf - two rounds a day are plenty - Harry Vardon

What a brilliant day, Saturday 20th December 2008, when all the Thornbury Tigers and many of the Thornbury Junior Golf Section got together for their respective Christmas competitions.

The junior section had a team event out on the High course while the younger Tigers played in a family Texas Scramble on the Low course.

Everyone, over 80 people in all, got together after the golf for a delicious Christmas meal from the carvery. Once the food had been consumed it was time to award gifts and prizes to all competitors.

It was also time for the retiring junior captain, Daniel Gosling to hand over the reins and the new captain's sweater to incoming captain, Lewis Harvey. In a brief speech, Daniel wished Lewis every success for the coming year and congratulated him on taking his title as Club Champion.

The final part of the hugely succesful day was to thank Diana Head for all her years of service as the Junior Organiser. Diana chose this event to retire and hand over to Hugh Rees, she has been a brilliant organiser and she will be greatly missed although I'm sure she won't be too far away.

The Junior section presented her with flowers and momentos of her achievements with the section. Best wishes were then passed on to Hugh.

The day was summed up by Kevin Ramshaw, father of Nicholas Ramshaw, who commented that it had been one of the best golf days he'd ever played in.

This is exactly what golf's all about and what's at the heart of the Thornbury Golf Centre's new mantra to establish itself as a home of family golf.
