Dave's biography »

I started playing golf when I was just 8 years old and in the 1970's there weren't too many other junior golfers at my local club. There was only 1 junior competition each year which was held on the Captain's Day. I can remember winning this trophy as it was the first competition that I entered, I was 24 under par and my handicap was immediately cut from 54 to 30, ouch!

Since I was 12 years old I always wanted to become a golf professional and I played and practiced as much as I possibly could.

I was mad on the game, I built a little course in my back garden so I could use plastic balls and chip them into small plant pots. I sometimes played 5 rounds in a day or I would caddy for a couple of rounds and only play 3 times. I was really lucky because the greenkeeper would pick me up on his way to work at 6.00 o'clock in the morning!
